Pre-Workout for Golf, Pickleball, and Non-Gym Days: The Half-Scoop Guide

Ragnarok Strawberry Bifrost pre-workout tub with fresh strawberries

Pre-workout got its name from the weight room, but most of our customers aren't powerlifters. They're 45 to 65, they lift a few days a week, and the rest of the time they golf, play pickleball, hike, coach, or just want to feel sharp on a Saturday morning. This is the half-scoop playbook for everything that isn't a heavy training day.

Why half a scoop is the right dose for non-gym days

A full scoop of Ragnarok is 225 mg of caffeine, built for a 60–90 minute hard session. Golf, doubles pickleball, or a long walk don't need that. Half a scoop gives you roughly 112 mg of caffeine, about one strong coffee, plus 125 mg of Lion's Mane, 50 mg of L-Theanine, and 3 g of citrulline. That's enough for steady energy and clear focus without the intensity you'd want under a barbell. It also keeps the beta-alanine tingle mild, which most people prefer when they're standing over a putt.

Golf

Take a half scoop 20–30 minutes before your tee time, with breakfast. What you're looking for is the back nine: the drop-off in focus and tempo that shows up around hole 13 when you've been walking for two hours. The sustained-release caffeine plus theanine is designed for exactly that steady, calm alertness. Skip the full scoop; jittery hands and a driver are a bad pair.

Pickleball, tennis, basketball

Half a scoop 20 minutes before warm-up. These are stop-start sports that run on repeat efforts in the 30–120 second range, which is the range beta-alanine and citrulline are best supported for. If you play in the evening, take the half scoop no later than 5 pm, or skip it and rely on your warm-up.

Hiking, cycling, and long walks

Half a scoop at the trailhead. Citrulline supports blood flow, which is what your legs want on a climb. Drink more water than you think you need; caffeine is mildly diuretic and you're outdoors for hours.

The office, the commute, the 3 pm meeting

Some customers use a half scoop in place of a second coffee on a long workday. It's not what Ragnarok was designed for, but it works for the same reason the training version does: caffeine plus L-Theanine plus Lion's Mane is a focus stack, not just a stimulant. Keep it before 2 pm and don't add it to coffee you've already had.

Gaming and late nights

This is the one case where we say no. Caffeine at 9 pm, even a half scoop, will cost you sleep, and poor sleep costs you more than a half scoop gains. Save it for daylight.

What half a scoop delivers

Creatine HCl 750 mg strength, ATP
Agmatine Sulfate 500 mg pump support
Lion's Mane 250 mg focus, “locked-in” feel
Pink Himalayan Salt 200 mg electrolytes
Caffeine (from green coffee bean) 175 mg energy, drive
CDP Choline 150 mg focus, mind-muscle connection
Theobromine 100 mg smooth, longer energy curve
L-Theanine 100 mg smooths caffeine, no crash
Di-Caffeine Malate (sustained-release) 50 mg extends the caffeine curve

Straight from the Supplement Facts panel: 12 actives, every dose printed, no proprietary blends. Total caffeine 225 mg (175 mg green coffee bean + 50 mg di-caffeine malate). No dyes, no sugar; colored with beet root.

Divide everything above by two. At half a scoop, one tub is 60 servings, which puts the cost at 75 cents per use. See the full dosing guide for timing rules and the coffee question.

Bottom line: Half a scoop, 20–30 minutes out, before 2 pm, for anything that isn't heavy training. Steady energy, clear focus, mild tingle, and 60 servings to the tub.
