Read our reviews and one word comes up more than any other: crash. Not that Ragnarok causes one, but that it's the first pre-workout people have tried that doesn't. Here's what a crash actually is, why most pre-workouts are engineered to produce one, and how we built around it.
What the crash is
A pre-workout crash is the 60-to-90-minute-later slump: heavy eyes, flat mood, sometimes a headache. It isn't your body running out of energy. It's the shape of the caffeine curve. Caffeine anhydrous, the cheap, fast form in most formulas, hits peak blood concentration in about 30 minutes and then falls off just as steeply. Your nervous system, which was pushed hard, swings back the other way. Add 350 or 400 mg of it in one hit and the drop is a cliff.
Three things that flatten the curve
1. A moderate total. Ragnarok carries 225 mg of caffeine, roughly two-and-a-half cups of coffee. It's enough to train hard and it leaves you well under the 400 mg daily guidance for healthy adults, even with a morning coffee. A smaller peak means a smaller drop.
2. Two forms, two speeds. 175 mg comes from green coffee bean, a food-sourced caffeine that builds over 20–30 minutes. Another 50 mg is di-caffeine malate, a sustained-release form that keeps the curve up through the back half of a session. The result is a plateau instead of a spike.
3. 100 mg of L-Theanine. The amino acid in green tea that smooths caffeine's edge. In studies on the pairing, theanine reduces the jittery, anxious side of caffeine while leaving the alertness alone. It's also why customers describe the feeling as focused rather than wired. Theobromine, the mild stimulant in cocoa, adds a gentler, longer tail.
“No overstimulating jitters, just clean focused energy! For me it also lasts way past my workout.”
“Other pre workouts I have used work but get me a little too amped up and mid workout I feel like I get flat. But Ragnarok keeps me alert and consistent the whole workout even into my cardio session.”
What “lasts past the workout” means in practice
Because the curve tapers instead of dropping, most people finish a 60–90 minute session and still feel clear for the next couple of hours. That's the difference between a pre-workout you take at 6 am and forget, and one that costs you your 10 am meeting. It also means the timing rules matter: a full scoop before 2 pm, a half scoop for late-afternoon sessions, nothing after 6 pm. Caffeine's half-life is five to six hours and gets longer with age, so the same gentle curve that protects your afternoon will also keep you up if you start it at 8 pm.
If you still feel a dip
A few things to check before blaming the formula. Did you take it on an empty stomach with no food after? Low blood sugar after a hard session feels a lot like a caffeine crash; eat within an hour of finishing. Did you stack it on two coffees? That puts you at 400 mg and reintroduces the spike. Did you get five hours of sleep? Nothing in a tub fixes that. If none of those apply and you're still dipping, drop to a half scoop for a week; some people simply run better at 112 mg.
